Zhane Creative - Contract Work
Role: Branding and User Interface Designer
Zhane Creative is a new company that has the goal to create a seamless photography experience. The end goal is to create and design physical cameras to improve the overall photography experience, but the current company goal is to create an IOS interface that can improve the current experience when sorting through a high number of photos.
I was hired to develop the company brand and to create a user interface prototype to be used by the company developers.
“Creating seamless designs for your photography experience.”
Seamless. Simple. Style. Zen.
Brainstorming with my client, those words and quote became the branding and marketing direction for the company. Defining the direction allowed me to make influential design decisions for both the brand and user interface.
Interface Design Concepts
My client wanted an IOS application that would sort through a high number of photos without the feeling of being overwhelmed.
Imagine: you just got done with a photoshoot and have 400 photos to look through. You now have to decide what photos to keep, which ones to delete, and how to organize it all. For some, this is a daunting task and consumes a lot of time.
The goal of the prototype is to design a seamless application to help clean and sort through a large amount of photos with ease.
Collections vs Folders
The following interaction is between the two main pages in the prototype: Collections and Folders.
Collections are the original photos uploaded to the application. The date of the photos taken/uploaded and the percentage of the photos cleaned and sorted are displayed under each collection. This allows users to easily understand the placement of each collection as well as the status of the collection.
Folders contain the sorted photos from the collections. Folders can contain photos from multiple collections.
Cleaning
The first step in organizing a collection is cleaning them. During this step, it’s a simple decision to either keep or delete a photo: swipe/tap right to keep a photo, swipe/tap left to delete a photo.
Design decisions were made to give users freedom and security when cleaning photos: an undo and redo button, an option to look and compare photos, as well as an home button to pause the cleaning process.
After cleaning, sorting comes next. The separation of cleaning and sorting removes the feeling of being overwhelmed. However, users do have the option to jump to sorting if they so choose.
Sorting
Once cleaning the collection has been finished, sorting comes next. When first selecting the collection to sort, an option to select current folders and/or create a new folder will be presented. In this interaction, 3 folders were chosen. New folders may be added at any time during the sorting process.
