Veronica was the founder and first president of Milwaukee School of Engineering’s (MSOE) Art & Design Club.
The following are a few events and projects hosted by Art & Design Club during her time as president, Fall 2019-Spring 2021. Veronica also advocated and implement MSOE’s first artistic maker space: the stART Lab. Working closely with the Grohmann Museum staff, the stART Lab was created on the lower level of the museum.
Mamma Africa - Black History Month
To celebrate Black History Month, Mamma Africa was designed as a paint by numbers to allow multiple students to participate at any given time. The purpose of Mamma Africa is to highlight the beauty of African Americans. The finished Mamma Africa was then showcased at the Black History Month Celebratory Event.
Paint a Molecule - MSOE STEAM Fair
Working with the Center of Biomolecular Modeling, 3D printed molecular structures of dopamine and caffeine were created. Participants were then given the opportunity to paint the molecules, whether it be to match the chemical structure or not, and take the painted molecule home as a keychain.
Lighting Seminar - Lessons for Photography
When Art & Design Club was created, it took over the Photography Club. A lot of students enjoyed photography at MSOE, so we wanted to ensure photography events continued. Lucky for us, we have professors who are professional photographers. During this seminar, we learned all about lighting and and angles hosted by our very own MSOE faculty.
Butterfly Exhibition - National Women’s Week
To celebrate National Women’s Day, MSOE made it into a week of events. A wooden home for butterflies was creating using plywood and tree branches. During the event, students and faculty would come to the booth and learn how to make an origami butterfly. Purple was 2020’s them for Women’s Day, so the butterflies were purple too (most of them). Just like a woman’s strength, you have to put in a bit of effort and love to create something beautiful.
